Evolution of a Zentangle Tile
The Zentangle Method deconstructs beautiful patterns or “tangles” into clear step-by-step components. The method begins with a centering of self in a moment of Gratitude and Appreciation and ends with Appreciation of what you have created. By following the steps and motions of a tangle you can achieve a sense of flow, where you can focus on each stroke of your pen and you do not concentrate on the final outcome.

Inspiration for Zentangle
I see Zentangles everywhere. The inspiration for Zentangles can come from nature, architectural structures, patterns in tiles or fabrics, and even the arrangement of a room. There is no limit to what can inspire a Zentangle.

Emily’s Personal Zentangles

The Jungle Series
My jungle series was inspired by trees where I focused on the intersection of trees and their leaves paying attention to the movement and negative spaces between.
I enjoy the tension between the organic shapes and the geometric lines that are created.

The Quadrant Series
This series plays on the basic Zentangle method of creating initial quadrants or shapes on the tile and then creating different designs within those quadrants.
I love the way the opposing designs interact as a whole as well as with each other along the quadrant borders.

The Flowers & Nature Series
My Flower & Nature Series is inspired by my love of flora. Nature is both beautiful and playful. The elements flow and sway in their interaction with each other and the environment as a whole.
I’ve had a love of flowers since I was a child. The shapes and intricacies of flowers has always inspired me and I enjoy capturing it through Zentangle.
